Chile Resorts

When the snow has melted in the north it's time to head to the southern hemisphere where the ski season runs from June to October. Two resorts - Valle Nevado and Portillo are both within a day trip distance from Santiago. Chile's newest ski center is located atop Volcan Osorno in the southern part of the country.

Portillo

2500 ft vertical, 35 trails, 14 lifts, 1235 skiable acres

Skiing in the Andes Mountains of Chile. Portillo Ski Resort is located 102 miles from Santiago. This is the place to ski. There is no town, no shopping center, etc.....just one big hotel set against one big, beautiful ski mountain. From July to Sept depending on snow guided heli-skiing tours are offered through an independent heli company.

Valle Nevado

2657 ft vertical, 42 trails, 14 lifts, 2225 skiable acres

Valle Nevado aka Snowy Valley, is the southern hemispheres largest skiing surface. The ski resort is located 37 miles from Santiago and ski season is from June through October. Along with wide, groomed cruising trails there are endless off piste opportunities as well as heli-ski services. To celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2013 the resort started operating the first gondola in Chile.

Termas de Chillan

3608 ft vertical, 28 trails, 11 lifts, 0 skiable acres

Termas de Chillan has South America's longest run of 13km (8 miles)! It is located 82km east of Chillan. The ski-in ski-out village resort is surrounded by native forests which allows for some tree skiing. The resort is known for it's natural hot springs pools. Along with skiing on 28 runs there is the opportunity for back country skiing and cat skiing.

Chapa Verde

2395 ft vertical, 20 trails, 5 lifts, 2965 skiable acres
Chapa Verde Ski Club is a non profit ski area located 56 km from Rancagua, Chile. The ski area has a relaxed, less crowded vibe. Ski season runs mid-June through to mid-October. The center has individual cabins for renting.

El Colorado

3576 ft vertical, 101 trails, 19 lifts, 2718 skiable acres
El Colorado Ski Resort is located 36 km from Santiago. Ski season runs from June to early October. With 112 tracks it is considered one of the best ski centers in South America.

La Parva

3150 ft vertical, 20 trails, 14 lifts, 988 skiable acres
La Parva Ski Resort is nestled in the Andes less than 1 hour from Santiago. The resort is described as a cozy mountain village with modern buildings that appear to hang on the slopes. It has served as a training center for international teams.

Nevados de Chillan

2854 ft vertical, 32 trails, 11 lifts, 0 skiable acres
Located near the village of Las Trancas, there are actually two resorts Nevados and Valle Hermoso. The resort offers varied terrain, catskiing, hotsprings ande deep powder. The ski area received an annual snowfall of 10 meters (32 feet!). Cat skiing and backcountry touring is some of the best in South America. Nevados de Chillan is open 12 months a year and is the most visited mountain resort in the country.
